Description
East Lodge is the entrance lodge to Henham Park, built around 1860-1870. It has an L-shaped plan and is constructed of white brick with a slated roof featuring both plain and fishscale slates. The building is a single storey and reflects a picturesque estate style.
At the front, there is a square bay that includes a tripartite sash window with semi-circular headed lights. On the drive side, a canted bay features semi-circular headed sash windows adorned with moulded brick embellishments on the arches. The drive side also has a heavy open brick porch that is richly decorated with moulded brick. It contains a six-panel door, which is topped by a modillion cornice and a circular panel displaying the Stradbroke monogram.
Above the bays and porch, there are projecting gables with broken pediments and spike finials, although the upper sections originally included pierced wooden tracery that is now missing. The main gable ends are similarly styled. The eaves cornice is made of moulded brick modillions. The chimney stack has a square base and features four detached flues with circular shafts made of moulded brick in a Tudor style, each topped with a carved stone capital that supports a heavy cap.
