Description
This barn is located at the site of the Augustinian Priory, which was founded around 1195 by Theobald de Valeins. It is believed to have been converted into a barn in the late 17th century and was remodeled in the 20th century. The structure consists of five bays and is built from random stone and flint, topped with a hipped thatched roof.
Notable features include a cart doorway with a depressed four-centred archway made of red brick, and a small doorway with a two-centred pointed moulded arch and stone jambs, which has been blocked with red brick. The east end of the barn features diagonal buttresses and has a 20th-century high-level fixed light. This barn is part of a scheduled ancient monument, and further details can be found in the description of Abbey House, which includes information about excavations.
