Description
The Old Rectory is a former rectory, now a house, built between 1835 and 1837 by Bilby of Melton for the Reverend George Crabbe. It is constructed of white Flemish bond brick and features a slate roof, with two storeys.
The garden front has six bays, including two projecting bays on the left with French windows on the ground floor, each consisting of 2 x 4 panes and topped with moulded lintels. Below the first-floor windows, there are blank recessed panels, while the first-floor windows themselves are made up of two casement lights. To the right, there is a recessed section with a canted bay window at the far right, spanning two bays. This bay window has two sets of French windows divided by a mullion, each also featuring 2 x 4 panes, with windows at the angles consisting of 1 x 4 panes. To the left of the bay window, there are two additional sets of French windows at ground floor level, with blank panels above and four two-light casement windows at the first floor. The hipped roof is adorned with two chimney stacks on the right, each with three pots, and one chimney on the far left. The left side of the building has two two-light casements on both the ground and first floors, separated by panels.
On the right-hand (entrance) front, there is a doorway on the right with panelled pairs of pilasters flanking a half-glazed door, topped with an entablature. Above this, there is a two-light casement window with a moulded lintel. To the right of the doorway, there is an added service wing with a projecting bay on the ground floor, which includes a six-panel doorway to the right, a three-light casement to the left, and a two-light casement with a moulded lintel at the far left. Above this service wing, there are two first-floor windows, each with moulded lintels.
