Description

Lords Waste is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with substantial additions made in the 20th century. The house is timber-framed, now rendered and colour-washed, with a plain tile roof, likely originally thatched. It is a single storey building with attic rooms arranged in a baffle-entry T-shaped plan. The front of the house features a 20th-century doorway positioned to the right of centre, along with two and three 2-light casement windows, all of 20th-century date. Three 2-light dormer windows are set into the attic. An axial stack rises from the ridge above the doorway, with a hipped portion of the rear wing situated immediately to its left. A 20th-century lean-to brick addition is located to the far left, topped by a single-flue chimney stack. The rear elevation is obscured by later 20th-century additions. A central projecting two-storey gabled wing features outshuts at ground floor level, two 20th-century windows on the ground floor, and two single-light 20th-century casement windows to the first floor, topped by a weather vane. To the right of this wing is a recessed two-storey portion with a flat roof, and a similar portion to the left, which incorporates the current front door, featuring two recessed panels. The interior of the ground floor reveals exposed studding and chamfered ceiling beams. The first floor displays further exposed studding and cambered tie beams, which are slender, roughly-hewn timbers.
