Description
Bredfield War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, with additions for the Second World War. It is situated in the churchyard to the north of the Church of St Andrew, which is listed at Grade II*.
The memorial is made of Portland stone and features a tall Latin cross that rises from a tapering, four-sided plinth, which is set on a two-stepped base. The entire structure stands on a square concrete platform.
The main inscription is located on the south face of the plinth and reads: "IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF BREDFIELD WHO GAVE UP THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914–1919." The names of the 13 men who died are inscribed on the west and east faces of the plinth.
Additionally, there is an inscription on the south face of the upper step of the base that reads "1939–1945" followed by five names. All lettering is incised and painted black.
