Description
The Castle Public House is an early 19th-century public house located on the east side of The Street in Bredfield. It is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern and has two storeys. The front of the building features three bays that are symmetrically arranged. The central doorway has a round arched head with rubbed brick voussoirs and a panel above, which may have originally held a glazed fanlight. The panelled doorway includes panels in the reveals, with the door itself featuring two upper lights, two raised and fielded central panels, and two flush panels below. On either side of the doorway, there are three-light casement windows at ground floor level with splayed heads made of rubbed bricks. The first floor has two similar windows on either side with cambered heads, and a central round-arched window with two lights and Y-tracery. At the rear of the building, there is a projecting two-storey gabled wing on the left.
