Description

Coppings is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century to the left of the main stack, with the remainder of the main range rebuilt in the 18th century, likely replacing a medieval structure. There is also some 16th-century work at the rear. The farmhouse is timber-framed and plastered, with a pantiled roof. It is two storeys and has an attic. Originally arranged with three rooms and a lobby entrance, it now has four windows, comprising various casements, two with square leaded panes, and one sash window on the ground floor. The entrance is through a raised and fielded six-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed. There is an internal stack, and a smaller external stack to the right-hand gable end. A lower, colourwashed brick addition with a pantiled roof stands to the right-hand side. Attached to the rear of the brick addition is one bay of a mid-16th century associated dwelling, now used for storage, featuring good timber framing and a diamond-mullioned window on the first floor, with evidence for others; the roof is modern. The 17th-century section of the main range retains a fine exposed timber frame and the original newel stairs (both flights). The kitchen includes some re-used panelling.
