Description
Holly Tree Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th to 17th century, built in two phases, with the east end being the earlier part. It was restored around 1975 when it was extended to the north, creating a T-shaped plan. The building is timber framed and plastered, with some parts of the ground floor featuring colourwashed brick casing, and it has a thatched roof. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, arranged in a three-cell form.
There are three windows, which are mid-20th century three-light casements with large panes. The entrance features a lobby with a colourwashed brick porch and a mid-20th century glazed door. Additionally, there are two broad eyebrow dormers from the mid-20th century. At the rear, there is a notable 17th-century five-light oriel window with ovolo-moulded mullions.
Inside, the farmhouse has a modernized interior but retains a good exposed frame, some original doors, and old floorboards. The original newel stairs are present in both flights, and there are three arched brick fireplaces. The internal stack has a cruciform plan and is mainly composed of unfired brick, which is an unusual survival.
