Description
The Elephant and Castle is a public house dating from the 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure with roughcast, while the left-hand gable end is finished in colour-washed brick with a parapet. The building has an 'L' plan and is topped with plain tiled roofs that include twin gables facing the street. There is a cross wing at the right-hand end, and the building stands two storeys high with an attic. Each gable has a central window, and there are 20th-century attic windows in the apex, all of which are three-light casements with mullions, transoms, and top-hung vents. The front has a 20th-century central door leading to the bars, with a two-light casement window above it. Red brick stacks are present, and the interior features beams with run-out chamfer stops.
