Description
Minsmere House is a house with a complex history, dating from the 16th century to the rear, and featuring a front range built in the early 17th century, with a facade dating to the early 19th century. The house is timber-framed, with plastered gable ends and a colourwashed brick facade covered with modern concrete pantiles. It stands two storeys high with an attic. The front elevation has a three-window range, featuring three-light casement windows with cambered arches. It has a wooden eaves modillion cornice, a flat parapet, three shallow-pedimented dormers, and an internal stack. The house has two doorways with inset six-panel doors, one with a frieze and cornice, and the other featuring pilasters and a reeded frieze and cornice. Above each doorway is a firemark from the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, dated 1801-2, which likely corresponds to the date of the facade. A rear wing has an original brick gable end. The rear wing retains some exposed joists, and one ground floor room contains an Adam style fireplace.
