Description
Nos. 98, 98A and 100 on High Street in Southwold is a public house that has been converted into two shops. It was built between 1835 and 1836. The building features Gault brick construction, with a slate roof at the front and pantiles on the rear wing, along with brick end stacks.
The exterior has a three-storey, three-bay front, with the central bay projecting beneath a quasi pediment. The ground floor has two shop fronts, with No. 100 extending around the corner onto Church Street. The first floor contains three unhorned sash windows, each with six panes, set under rendered gauged skewback arches. The second floor has three unhorned sash windows, each with three panes. There are narrow bands at both the second floor and parapet levels, and a plain parapet that conceals the roof. The right return to Church Street has a three-window range, with a two-storey, two-window wing to the left. The shop entrance is located at a canted corner, and all windows are sashes.
The interior does not have any features of particular interest.
