Description
The Great House is a 15th-century timber-framed and plastered building that was completely refronted in the 18th century. It has tiled roofs, with the front block featuring hipped ends at the north-west and south-east. The building is two storeys tall with attics and has a six-window range of double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The entrance is marked by a Doric doorcase with plain columns, a frieze, and a cornice. The main block displays a moulded wood eaves cornice. There is a two-storey wing extending to the north-east on Prentice Street, where the timber-framing is exposed on the upper storey, and some old windows have been restored. The ground storey includes a splayed bay with double-hung sashes with glazing bars at the south-west end and a cart entrance at the north-east end. The interior features are noted to be of good quality.
