Description

LAVENHAM MARKET PLACE 1. 5377 (north-east side) Little Hall TL 9149 50/611 23.1.58 II* GV 2 A C15 timber-framed and plastered building originally with cross wings and a central hall. It is said to have been the Wool Hall of William Causton, an important Lavenham clothier and it is now the headquarters of the Suffolk Preservation Society. Extensively restored in the 1930s with all the timber-framing exposed. Roof tiled. Two storeys. The upper storeys of the cross wings are jettied on exposed joists but the gable to the south-east cross wing has been removed and roofed in to the same pitch as the main block. The windows and doors are all in period style with a tail mullioned and transomed window to the centre block. The interior, although considerably restored, has many original features and a king-post roof.
