Description
Little Hall is a 15th-century timber-framed and plastered building located on the north-east side of Lavenham Market Place. Originally featuring cross wings and a central hall, it is believed to have served as the Wool Hall for William Causton, a notable clothier in Lavenham. The building now serves as the headquarters of the Suffolk Preservation Society. It underwent extensive restoration in the 1930s, during which all the timber-framing was exposed. The roof is tiled, and the building has two storeys. The upper storeys of the cross wings are jettied on exposed joists, although the gable of the south-east cross wing has been removed and roofed to match the pitch of the main block. The windows and doors are designed in a period style, including a tail mullioned and transomed window in the centre block. The interior, while significantly restored, retains many original features, including a king-post roof.
