Description

Knollgate is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house located on Court Street in Nayland with Wissington. It features a cross wing at the south end and has undergone alterations in the 17th century and later, including a 20th-century addition at the rear. The upper storey of the cross wing jetties out on curved brackets. The main block is partly faced in brick and is colourwashed. The building has one storey and attics, along with a two-storeyed cross wing. The windows are casements with glazing bars from the 20th century, and there is an oriel bay beneath the jetty of the cross wing. A four-panel door with a moulded wood architrave provides access. The roofs are tiled, featuring one sloping roofed dormer on the main block. Inside, the house has moulded beams and exposed joists.
