Description

The Kings Arms is a public house, likely dating from the early 16th century, with later alterations. It features a timber-framed structure that is rough rendered, topped with a plain tile roof and red brick stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a U-plan layout with cross wings at the rear. There is a possible former through passage that has been blocked by a later inserted stack in the front range, indicated by a door on the rear wall opposite the front entrance. The front has a boarded door set in a plain doorcase with a hood above.

There is a canted bay with a 16-pane sash window flanked by 12-pane sashes, all under a slate roof. To the left, there is a 3-light 20th-century casement window and another boarded door at the extreme left. To the right of the entrance, there is a 3-light window, with 20th-century casements above. The roof is steep and hipped, with a ridge stack on the right and an extension to the right under a pent roof. The rear wings include one that is gabled and another that is hipped.

Inside, there is a rebuilt inglenook fireplace supported by a timber bressumer. The right (hipped) cross wing has four bays, with chamfered beams and joists featuring run-out stops. The first floor has a chamfered jowled post and a tie beam with a replaced crown post that has knees to the purlin, along with studded walls. The wall plate includes a shutter groove. There is a 17th to 18th-century panelled door with HL hinges, and the other wing has jowled posts and a chamfered tie with mortices for arch braces. The rear part of the building is closed off.
