Description

Waterloo House is a house dating from the mid to late 16th century, with later alterations including a refronting in the early 19th century. The building is timber-framed with a painted brick front and features a plain tile roof with red brick stacks. It has two low storeys on the left side and a higher two-storey range on the right, comprising a total of three and a half bays.

On the left range, there is a half-glazed door beneath a segmental arch to the left, alongside a tripartite sash window with glazing bars also under a segmental arch. The first floor has an 8-pane sash window with arched upper panes. An external stack is located on the left gable, with another stack at the junction of the two ranges. The right section features a 16-pane flush sash window under a cambered arch, as well as an unequal sash window with arched panes above.

Inside, some of the framing is exposed. There is an inglenook with a damaged arched bressumer that is chamfered with stops, studded walls, and a chamfered longitudinal beam with a step stop. The joists are also chamfered. On the first floor, there is a steeply cambered chamfered tie beam in a studded partition wall, with arch down braces and jowled posts. The roof has clasped purlins, and in the higher section, jowled posts, a tie beam, and the base of an apparent crown post are visible in the end wall, although access to the roof is not available.
