Description

TM 0434 STRATFORD ST MARY UPPER STREET (south side) 5/43 - Waterloo House GV II House. Mid-late C16 with later alterations including early C19 refronting. Timber-framed with painted brick front. Plain tile roof, red brick stacks. 2 low storeys to left with higher 2-storey range to right. 3½ bays in all. Left range: half-glazed door under segmental arch to left. Tripartite sash with glazing bars under segmental arch. 8-pane sash with arched upper panes to 1st floor. External stack to left gable and further stack at junction between the two ranges. Right section: 16-pane flush sash under cambered arch and unequal sash with arched panes above. Interior: framing exposed in part. Inglenook with damaged arched bres- sumer, chamfered with stop. Studded walls. Chamfered longitudinal beam with step stop. Chamfered joists. 1st floor: steeply-cambered chamfered tie beam in studded partition wall with arch down braces. Jowled posts. Clasped purlin roof. Higher section: jowled posts, tie beam and base of apparent crown post visible in end wall but access to roof not available.
