Description

Cart lodge dating from the 18th century, located to the north-west of Scotland Place. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, topped with a plain-tiled roof. There is a lean-to extension at the rear, while the front and rear were formerly open. The structure features four bays and two floors, with an enclosed loft above. The main posts are supported by kneed braces connecting to the tie-beams and wallplates. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins, a ridge-piece, and rafters set on edge. This cart lodge is noted for being better built and earlier than most surviving examples.
