Description
The garden wall and gateway date from the 17th century, with repairs and alterations made in the 19th century and later. Constructed of red brick, the wall is mainly crenellated and is attached to the south west corner of Crowe Hall, enclosing the garden to the west and north. The gateway on the north face features stuccoed octagonal columns with bases and crenellated capitals, topped with domes that have moulded finials. There are also carved stone brackets on the wall and a finial at the north west angle. Access to the house from Lower Street is via a long, tree-lined drive that passes through the gateway. Additionally, there are remnants of a blocked gateway on the south west face of the wall, which includes a gauged brick arch, pilasters with moulded capitals and bases, and a moulded band above. Above this blocked gateway, the rear wall of a later service wing rises.
