Description
Ancient House is a Grade II listed building that consists of two cottages now combined into one dwelling. It dates from the early 17th century or earlier and has undergone later alterations and additions. The structure is timber framed and covered with parget plaster, topped by a red plain tiled roof. It features left external and off-centre right chimneystacks at the ridge. The building is one storey high with attics and has bargeboards with pendants on the return gables. The front wall displays pargetted panels decorated with trailing vine designs. There are three gabled dormers with scalloped bargeboards and a three-window range of diamond leaded 2-light casements. The entrance includes two plank and muntin doors with simple surrounds and flat canopies supported by 17th-century carved console brackets that terminate in female heads.
