Description

No 2 Church Street is a building that likely dates from the 16th or 17th century but has undergone significant alterations, particularly at the front and with a large modern addition on the east end. It is a two-storey structure that features a timber frame and plastered exterior, with tiled roofs. The front of the building is almost identical to that of No 6, but it has only two windows. The ground floor includes a 19th-century bay window and an elaborate doorcase topped with a pediment hood supported by pairs of decorated consoles. Photographs from the National Monuments Record show that this building, along with No 57 High Street, forms part of the same shop premises operated by Messrs Boats. Nos 2 to 8 Church Street are recognized as a group.
