Description
Nos 57 and 59 High Street are part of the same shop premises occupied by Messrs Boots. This 19th-century corner building is constructed of red brick and has two storeys with attics, topped by a plain tile roof featuring cresting along the ridge. It includes five large gabled attic dormers with pierced bargeboards and pointed finials, as well as two large chimney stacks with rectangular bases and diagonally grouped shafts. The building has a moulded brick eaves cornice and a five-window range of double-hung sashes on the upper storey, each with hood moulds. The gable end facing Church Street features pierced bargeboards, a pointed finial, and a splayed oriel window on the upper storey. The ground floor has a corner shop front with a splayed entrance, supported by a slim cast-iron column with a twisted shaft. The shop windows are fitted with wood mullions and panelled risers, and there is a moulded and modillioned cornice above.
