Description

TM 0433 STRATFORD ST MARY LOWER STREET (west side) 6/35 Idle Waters, The Island (formerly listed as No 4 19.4.77 Talbooth Cottage) - II House. Probable C16 origins, C17 alterations, refronted and divided into two dwellings early C19, renovated and restored to single dwelling c.1977. Timber- framed with red brick front. Plain tile roof. Red brick stack. 2 storeys. Doors to each end relating to C19 subdivision. Renewed casement windows under segmental arches. Similar windows below eaves, that to centre inserted c.1977. Central ridge stack. Interior: some framing exposed. Somewhat rebuilt inglenook with chamfered bressummer. Chamfered longitudinal beam and exposed joists with tongue stops, some replaced. Re-set paired service doorways with chamfered Tudor arches originally placed in end wall to left suggesting former service range at this point. 1st floor chamfered basket-arched fireplace. Ovolo-moulded beams, tongue stops. Reroofed but retains vestigial crown post.
