Description
Rookery Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been extensively restored around 1985. It features a timber-framed structure with a rendered finish and a plain tile roof, along with a red brick chimney stack. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a frame that consists of four to five bays. The original lobby entry has been blocked, and there is an off-centre plank door to the right, which is sheltered by a tiled bracketed hood. To the right of the door is a two-light casement window, while to the left is a restored ovolo mullion window. There is a 20th-century fixed light window where the original lobby was, and a bracketed 20th-century oriel window to the left. On the first floor, there are restored diamond mullion windows and a fixed light window next to the stack. All the mullion windows are glazed with plate glass on the outside. The roof is steeply pitched, with an off-centre ridge stack to the left.
Inside, the frame is mostly exposed, featuring chamfered jowled posts, wall plates, and studding. There are arched down braces to the angle post at the first floor level. The staircase, which has been renewed but retains part of the original newel, is located at the rear of the stack. The room to the left of the stack contains an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered bressummer, a cambered cross beam, and a longitudinal beam with tongue stops. The first floor is partially open to the roof, featuring a tie beam with replaced arch braces and a clasped purlin roof. There is another inglenook fireplace in a bedroom, and a restored window that retains the original shutter groove, although the shutter itself has been replaced.
