Description

This building is a posting house, originally a timber-framed and plastered hall house dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, with cross wings at the north and south ends. It was altered in the 17th and 18th centuries and restored during the 20th century. The building is two storeys high. Most of the windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The central block and north cross wing have 20th-century shop windows, and the north end features an addition with a carriageway. The south cross wing has 19th-century ornamental bargeboards, and a doorcase with fluted pilasters and a cornice hood supported on brackets. The roof is tiled, with a modillion eaves cornice to the centre block. Inside, there is exposed timber-framing, and on the first storey, a cambered tie beam with a crown post.
