Description

Hanwell House is a timber-framed house with a red brick front dating to the 18th century, located in Long Melford. It is two storeys high with cellars. The front of the house has three windows, featuring double-hung sash windows with glazing bars in simple reveals. The outer windows on both floors are Venetian style, with pointed arched glazing bars in the upper centre lights. A central six-panel door is set within a doorcase featuring pilasters and an open pediment, and has a semi-circular fanlight with ornamental fan glazing bars and panelled reveals. A raised stucco band runs across the front of the building between the two storeys. The roof is tiled, with hipped north and south ends. A visible 18th-century Sun Fire Insurance sign is affixed to the front of the building.
