Description

Brook Street Hall, which includes numbers 5 to 11 Brook Street and the Army Cadet Force Centre, is a former horsehair factory likely built in the 1840s. This red brick building features white brick dressings and is designed in a half H-shaped plan with long wings extending to the west at both the north and south ends. It has two storeys.

The windows are primarily four-light casements with glazing bars and segmental arched heads. The front range consists of four different levels and includes matching end blocks, each with three-window ranges of double-hung sashes featuring glazing bars in plain reveals. Central doorways are adorned with rectangular fanlights. The central sections have two and three-window ranges of casements. A chequer brick raised band runs between the storeys on the east front.

The south front displays a six-window range of casements, separated by white brick pilasters, along with a one-window range of double-hung sashes with glazing bars at the east end. The north front has a twelve-window range, mostly consisting of casements, with some double-hung sashes and a one-window range of double-hung sashes with glazing bars at the east end. The roofs are covered with slate.
