Description
Churchgate Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped roof covered with slate. The building has two storeys and a three-window range on the entrance front, with one- and two-window ranges on the returns and a three-window range on the rear elevation. The design is bilaterally symmetrical, centered around a round-arched entrance that includes an overlight. Above the entrance, there is a narrow window with original 6 x 6 sash windows. The entrance range projects slightly and is flanked by brick pilaster strips at the outer corners. The outer ranges have camber-arched windows, also with original 8 x 8 sashes. The right return has a similar window on the ground floor, while the left return features similar windows on both the ground and first floors near the corner of the entrance front. A storey band runs along the building, and there are pairs of stacks on either side of the roof hip. The rear elevation has camber-arched windows with original 6 x 6 sashes, and the entrance aligns with that of the main front. Inside, there is a staircase with balusters and a rail of original design. The front elevation, characterized by its shallow hipped roof and projecting eaves, showcases the elegant proportions typical of the Regency period.
