Description
The Church of St Mary is a remarkable 14th and 15th century flint church featuring stone dressings, located in Glemsford. The 14th century west tower is built in three stages and includes diagonal buttresses, a castellated parapet, and a three-light Decorated window in the upper stage. The nave arcade and clerestory date from the 14th century, while the aisle walls, chapels, and the north and south porches are from the 15th century, showcasing fine flushwork panelling. Both the aisles and chancel have castellated parapets, and the windows are adorned with Perpendicular tracery. Historical records indicate that funds were allocated for a south window in 1447, a north window in 1454, and clerestory windows in 1474-5. The north aisle roof features carved beams, and there is a 15th century carved font. The church is recognized for its architectural, historical, and topographical significance.
