Description

This is an exceptional and important 17th-century building located on the north-east side of High Street. It is a two-story building with attics, constructed with timber framing and plaster, and has steep, tiled roofs. The rear of the building features three gables and retains much original detail.

The most distinctive feature is the upper story of the South front, which showcases a richly carved modillion cornice and a row of six windows with original leaded glazing. Each window has three lights with an arched central light, reminiscent of Sparrowe's House in Ipswich. The date 1676 is worked into the lead in the arched head of one of the central lights. Originally, this upper story projected outward, but it has since been underbuilt with brick and fitted with several small shop fronts. The roofline contains six flat-headed dormer windows. Most of the building's original fittings remain.
