Description
The Raydon War Memorial is a First World War memorial made of limestone. It is situated beside the main entrance to the churchyard, to the east of the Grade II* listed Church of St Mary.
The memorial features a plain Celtic cross with a tapering shaft that stands on a tapering plinth, which in turn rests on a three-stepped base, with the lower step made of concrete.
On the east face of the plinth, there is a main inscription in leaded lettering on a plain marble tablet that reads: "THESE MEN FELL FIGHTING/ FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ 1914-1918./ (NAMES)/ ‘THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE.’"
An additional inscription is found on the north face of the plinth, also in leaded lettering on a plain marble tablet, which states: "THESE MEN/ ALSO FELL FIGHTING/ FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ IN THE/ SECOND WORLD WAR/ 1939-1945/ (NAMES)/ ‘THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR/ EVERMORE.’"
