Description
Molet House is an impressive early 16th century clothier's house located on Barn Street in Lavenham. The building is positioned at right angles to the road and features exposed timber-framing on the front. The gable and upper storey are jettied, supported by carved bressumers, and the upper storey is held up by exposed joists with curved brackets, along with moulded capitals and shafts.
This two-storey structure boasts a notable 7-light oriel window on the ground floor, which has moulded mullions, a soffit, and a carved transom. There is also an original wide doorway with a 4-centred arch that includes carved spandrels, leading to a passage that runs the length of the building. At the opposite end of the passage, there is a similar doorway. The upper storey features a 7-light mullioned oriel window with a moulded cill, which has been restored. Inside, the house showcases fine beams and many original features.
