Description

Lodge Cottage is a 16th-century timber-framed building located in Groton. It features an extension to the north and a later extension to the south. The cottage has been restored, with the timber-framing exposed and plaster infill. It stands two storeys high, with the central and southern parts having jettied upper storeys supported by exposed joists. The central section includes curved brackets that hold the remains of shafts with moulded capitals. The northern part also has a jettied upper storey and is gabled on the north side. The windows are restorations of the original style, consisting of casements with leaded lights. The roof is tiled and includes a ridge chimney stack. Inside, the cottage showcases exposed timber-framing, moulded ceiling beams, and ceiling joists.
