Description
The Grove is a large house set back in its grounds, facing south. It is believed to have originated as a clothier's house from the 15th to 16th century. The south block was completely refaced in grey brick during the 18th century, and the roofs are tiled. This block features a parapet and a stucco cornice with arched modillions. It has two storeys, with the south front displaying outer two-storeyed splayed bays and a central Venetian window topped by an open pediment. The central doorway is framed by a Tuscan doorcase with plain columns and an open pediment. There are two gabled dormers located behind the parapet.
To the north, there is a timber-framed and plastered wing that includes a variety of small windows, one of which is an old restored mullioned window. The wing also has an old ridge chimney stack with two short octagonal shafts and a large modern gabled dormer. Inside, the house features fine panelled rooms and moulded beams, with the front rooms showcasing good 18th-century panelling.
