Description
Nos 23 and 23A on St Nicholas Street are late 15th century buildings that have been altered. They are two stories tall with an attic and have a plastered exterior. The roof is covered with machine tiles. The first floor is blank, but there are three 3-light casement windows on the eastern return. To the left, there is an advanced gabled wing that features an overhanging first floor and an exposed carved corner post. This wing has a 3-light casement window in the gable and another one below on the first floor, while the ground floor has a square bay sash window with glazing bars. The building has a brick plinth and a projecting brick wing beyond the gabled projection, which is painted brick and has a pantile roof. This wing includes a sash window with glazing bars and gauged flat arches, as well as a rounded and splayed corner shop entrance with a shop projection on each side. The eastern shop projection features wood casing with reeded pilasters. Nos 17 to 23A form a group.
