Description

Abbey Farmhouse is a house dated 1654, which may include earlier work. It features a rendered timber frame and brick construction with a tile roof. The building has a two-cell plan with a rear wing and a stair outshut in the angle, along with a 18th-century range on the south gable. The facade has two storeys and irregular window placement. All windows, made of oak, were added during restoration in the 1970s. The ground floor has a brick plinth and three casement windows, two of which on the left have timber pediments and are dated. There is a six-panel door and four mullioned windows on the first floor. The rear has stacks, with the left stack repaired and integrated into a single-storey and attic gabled range that features casements on both floors. A small two-storey brick gabled stair outshut with a six-panel door in moulded jambs is located to the right, showcasing two orders of ovolo moulding. A large gabled dormer also displays two orders of ovolo moulding on its bressumer beam. The right-hand stack has repaired twin octagonal shafts with star tops, incorporated into the outshut. The north gable wall includes a six-panel door and two mullioned windows. An 18th-century dairy to the south has a facade with a plank door and a louvred window, topped with a pantile roof and shaped gable. Inside, there is an ovolo moulded transverse beam in the northern ground floor room, a brick fireplace with a moulded four-centred arch, and a blocked window with cavetto moulded mullions in the rear wing and near the south stack. There is also cavetto moulding on a blocked mullioned window in the rear wall of the outshut, and the roof features butt purlins with curved wind braces.
