Description

White House Farmhouse is a 17th-century house with a rendered timber frame and thatched roof, located on Bergh Apton Road in Mundham. It features a three-cell lobby entrance type plan and has a facade with four bays over two storeys. The building has a rendered plinth and includes 20th-century windows and a 20th-century door with a flat hood situated between the third and fourth bays. There are four 20th-century windows on the upper floor, and the house has a 19th-century axial stack along with an off-centre axial stack that has two truncated polygonal shafts.

Inside, the right-hand room showcases exposed close-studding, an ovolo-moulded cross-beam with bar stops and a recessed soffit, and a brick fireplace with chamfered jambs, although its lintel has been replaced. There is also a small reset ovolo-moulded window in the back wall of this room. The center room features wall posts with moulded capitals supporting a chamfered cross-beam with notched run-out stops and a new fireplace. The small unheated left-hand end room contains a cross beam with thin chamfers and large chamfered joists. On the first floor, the right-hand end has large wall posts with gunstack jowled heads and an ovolo-moulded blocked window in the rear wall. The right-hand end bedchamber includes a chamfered tie-beam ovolo-moulded ceiling beam and a brick fireplace with a chamfered three-centred arch.
