Description
The Tibenham War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1920 and includes later additions. It has an octagonal shape and features a Latin cross, plinth, and base made of Carrera marble, designed to imitate the Cross of Sacrifice by Sir Reginald Blomfield. A small metal cross is located on the front (west) elevation, and the memorial stands on a platform made of Portland stone. The eight sides of the plinth are inscribed with the words: '1914-18 / THESE WERE / OUR CHILDREN / WHO DIED / FOR OUR / HOMES THEY / WERE DEAR / IN OUR SIGHT’. The names of those who fell in the First World War (1914-18) are inscribed on the four western sides of the plinth, while the names of three individuals who fell in the Second World War (1939-45) were added to the base of the front (west) elevation. The memorial is situated in the churchyard of the Church of All Saints, which is listed at Grade I, and is prominently placed along the path from Church Road.
