Description
Hastings Hall is a 16th-century timber-framed building featuring close studding and a black glazed pantile roof with gabled ends. It stands two storeys tall, with a jettied first floor. At the south end, there is a modern timber frame wing designed to match the original structure. The original part of the building has four windows, which are now fitted with four-light modern casements in the positions of the original windows. There is a central arched doorway, which is original, though the door itself is modern. A similar arched doorway at the rear has been blocked. A rebuilt brick chimney stack is located at the north end. Inside, the ground floor consists of one large room supported by a central post that holds two longitudinal beams morticed together over the post. The first floor features an arched roof and was likely also one room originally. The original purpose of the building is not known, but it was once referred to as the Poor House.
