Description
Church Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with a mid-18th century east wing and 19th century alterations. The building features a rendered timber frame, with random bond brickwork on the 18th century range and 'tumbled-in' brickwork on the gable end. It has plain tile roofs and a brick stack.
The plan consists of a three-room baffle entry layout, with the rear east wing creating an L-shaped configuration. The main range is two storeys high, with mid to late 19th century casements and a segmental-arched doorway in a 19th century lean-to on the west elevation. The east elevation has similar casements and a first-floor 18th century three-light wooden-mullioned window with diamond-paned leaded lights, along with an 18th century two-light leaded casement in a roof dormer. The east wing features a segmental arch over a plank door on the north elevation, flanked by a single-light leaded casement and a mid to late 19th century four-light casement. The south elevation has two dormers, one with a leaded two-light casement and another with a 20th century window.
Inside, early joinery includes 17th to 19th century plank doors, stop-chamfered beams, and a collar truss roof. The house is associated with an important and largely unaltered group of 18th and 19th century farm buildings in the vernacular tradition.
