Description

Chedgrave Manor is a country house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is situated on the south side of Norwich Road in Chedgrave. The principal facade faces north and is symmetrical in its design, originally comprising five bays, with later extensions adding a three-bay, two-storey section and a two-bay, one-storey section to the west. The house is constructed of gault brick with a hipped slate roof and lead flat sections. It has two storeys, attic space, and a cellar. Windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within flat gauged arches. The central doorway features a six-panelled, part-glazed door and a rectangular fanlight with decorative glazing bars, sheltered by a portico supported by fluted Doric columns. Plain wooden brackets are positioned along the eaves soffit. A central chimney stack is present.

The east wall contains a central doorway with a semicircular head and a blind opening above. It also features two plate glass sashes and a pair of glazed doors with a square bay window above, set on a coved base. The rear elevation is of six bays, featuring sash windows, with some glazing bars remaining in one ground floor and two first floor windows. Blind boxes are present on the ground and first floors, and there are blind openings in one ground floor and three first floor bays. A pair of glazed doors is located in the second bay from the east. Symmetrically-placed chimney stacks provide architectural emphasis. Curved screen walls define the garden areas—one at the north-east corner and another at the south-west corner, where a slated lean-to store is attached to the garden wall's north side.
