Description
No. 3 and No. 5 High Street is a restaurant with accommodation above, dating from the late 16th century. It was probably originally part of a larger building that included No. 1 next door. The structure is made of stuccoed brick and features a steep pantile roof with brick coped gable ends, and the south gable end has a moulded brick finial. The building is two storeys high and has two windows. On the first floor, there are two sashes with glazing bars. The ground floor features a good mid-19th century shop window with pilasters and an entablature with a cornice, a central glazed door, and moulded mullions flanking the windows. There is a large brick chimney stack over the north gable end, which has a terracotta coat of arms. At the rear, there is a small three-light moulded mullion window. To the right (south), there is a 19th century wing with a rubble ground floor and brick above, also with a pantile roof and gable ends. This wing is two storeys high and has a ground floor four-light mullion/transom window with a hood on brackets, but no first floor window on the front. Inside the main building, there is a wide moulded wood four-centred arch fireplace with carved spandrels.
