Description

The stable and shed located at the rear of No. 10 Quorn House is likely from the 1720s, with some remodeling done in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a black glazed pantile roof, along with some clapboarding. The structure consists of a two-bay stable and tack room with a hay loft above, which includes part of a dovecote that has been extended and slightly lowered. Various panelled and boarded doors, as well as windows, are present on the left side. The right end has a part-glazed door leading to the tack room, and the shed extends to the right, also featuring doors and a red pantile roof. The gable has been truncated due to the roof renewal in the mid-19th century, but the flight holes suggest an original date of 172--, with an oculus in the center.

Inside, the former gable end of the 18th-century stable divides the space into two units. It includes spinal bridging beams, loose boxes with iron corner mangers, and floors made of blue stable paviours. On the first floor, the dovecote is separated from the loft by a stud partition, with a heavy jointed doorframe dividing the tie beam. The mid-19th-century roof features dovetailed collars and wedge-tenoned butt purlins. This building retains features from both construction periods and is included for its group value with Quorn House.
