Description

Beaconsfield House, dating from the 18th century, is located in Hingham Market Place and is constructed of red brick. It features a slate roof behind a panelled parapet, a moulded cornice, and two giant pilasters. The building stands three storeys high and has three windows with flat rubbed brick arches, keyblocks, plain cills, and sashes with glazing bars. A central wide portico is supported by two Tuscan columns and includes an entablature, moulded architrave, rectangular fanlight, and a glazed door.

On the right-hand return facing Norwich Street, the house continues for three storeys with three blind windows. At the rear, there is an early 18th-century wing facing Norwich Street, also in red brick, with a tiled gable-ended roof and brick dentil eaves. This wing has two storeys and an attic, featuring two hipped dormers with moulded cornices and leaded casement windows. The first floor has six windows, one of which is blocked, including two 18th-century two-light mullion/transom casements with leaded panes and three sashes with glazing bars. The ground floor has a similar casement that is blocked and partly blocked windows, and at the left-hand end, there is a porch with fielded panel pilasters and an entablature, along with a moulded architrave doorcase that has panelled reveals and a panelled door. The property also includes low iron railings and open work iron gate piers with ogee-shaped heads.
