Description
Admiral's House, also known as Nos 12 and 12A, is a house located in Hingham Market Place. It dates from the early 18th century, although the core of the building may be older. The exterior is made of colour-washed brick and features a steep black-glazed pantile roof with crow-step gable ends and a moulded eaves cornice. There is a band at floor level, and the house is two storeys high with an attic. The window arrangement consists of two windows on the outer sides and one in the centre, which projects slightly. The windows are sashes with glazing bars set in plain architraves, while the ground floor has 20th-century louvred shutters.
The central doorcase has a needed architrave and an open pediment supported by console brackets. It features panelled reveals, a rectangular fanlight with radial glazing bars, and fielded panel doors. There are two dormers with cambered heads and sashes with glazing bars. The right-hand wing of the house projects and has an embattled parapet, with one sash window on each floor, both featuring glazing bars. The left-hand wing projects as a single storey and has one sash window.
