Description
Southernwood House is a late 17th and 18th century house located on the north side of Hingham Market Place. The house is primarily brick, with a stuccoed front, and has a black-glazed pantile roof with curved gable ends. It is two storeys high with an attic. The front facade features three windows, with sash windows containing glazing bars. The right-hand sashes have margin lights, and the central entrance has a fielded panel door topped with a cornice resting on console brackets. Small oval windows are positioned on the right side of both floors. Two dormers with pediments and casement windows with glazing bars are visible in the attic. Brick chimney stacks are above the gables. To the left, a lower portion of the house has a tiled roof, with a sash window on the ground floor with glazing bars and a first-floor casement window set through the eaves, featuring a pedimented head. Inside, an open brick fireplace is present in the parlour, along with chamfered ceiling beams.
