Description

This building is a barn located approximately 60 metres southeast of Old Hall Farmhouse. It dates from the early 17th century and features a timber frame, which was extended to the east in the mid-18th century using brick, topped with a pantile roof. The barn has a three-stead threshing layout and includes a mid-18th century north outshut.

The exterior showcases a brick plinth and weatherboarded timber framing. The south double doors have been blocked, while the east bay is constructed of brick and includes honeycomb ventilation panels and a loading doorway leading into the later east extension. The north outshut is built of English bond brick and features central double timber doors.

Inside, the barn has jowled principal studs with arched braces connecting to a central pair of tie beams and the tie beam at the west gable end. The roof structure includes principal rafters, two tiers of butt purlins, arched wind braces, and collars. The lower frame has a middle rail, and the south carriage entrance has been blocked with mid-18th century timber framing. The north entrance is characterized by sloping lintels that meet at a point, and the north outshut has a simple purlin roof.

This barn forms a group with Old Hall Farmhouse, another barn located approximately 90 metres southeast of Old Hall Farmhouse, the Church of St. Mary, and the remains of the Church of St. Martin.
