Description

Nos. 23-27 on The Street is a terrace of three dwellings that originated as a house in the 17th century and was extended and remodeled into its current form as a terrace row in the late 18th century. The building features timber framing from the 17th century and late 18th century brickwork in Flemish bond, topped with a gabled pantile roof and brick ridge and end stacks. The original 17th-century house consisted of three units, while the late 18th-century modifications resulted in one unit for No. 23 and two units for the other houses, with rear outshuts. The terrace is two storeys high and has a five-window range. It includes flat gauged brick arches over late 19th-century plank doors, with No. 25 featuring a 20th-century light. The windows are 19th-century three-light casements with iron opening lights.

Internally, No. 23 was not inspected. No. 25 contains a 17th-century open fireplace with a reset bressummer next to the staircase, along with a 17th-century broach-stopped chamfered beam and joists, and bracing to the tie beam on the left. No. 27 has a 17th-century door with strap hinges, a back-to-back 17th-century open fireplace with No. 25, a chamfered beam with obscured stops, and a beam to the right that has pegholes indicating the former presence of two service doors.
