Description
The right gateway turret to the stable yard at Ketteringham Hall and its attached range were built in 1899 for Sir Francis Boileau. Constructed from red brick and topped with plain tiles, the octagonal, two-storey gate turret features a projecting embattled parapet with a double sawtooth brick cornice and recessed single segmental headed lights.
On the southeast face of the turret, there is a Greek marble relief, measuring 40 by 73 centimeters, likely from the late 2nd century BC and originating from Rheneia. It depicts a seated woman with a standing child facing a standing man under an arch with a pediment. Adjacent to this relief is a small marble satyr's head, which may have served as a water spout.
The forward attached single-storey range includes a loft and features crowstepped gables. It has two segmental headed carriage doorways, with a Greek marble relief measuring 30 by 60 centimeters between them, showing a standing man and child, along with an incomplete inscription below. The range also has two crowstepped gabled dormers. The turret and range are balanced by a left turret and range, which are also listed.
