Description

The left gateway turret to the stable yard at Ketteringham Hall, built in 1899 for Sir Francis Boileau, is a Grade II* listed structure made of red brick with plain tiles. This octagonal, two-storey turret features a projecting embattled parapet and a double sawtooth brick cornice, with recessed single segmental headed lights. On the north-west face of the turret, there is a Greek marble relief from the late 2nd century BC, measuring 38 by 60 centimeters, which depicts two women and two children, accompanied by an inscription and two wreaths.

Attached to the turret is a forward single-storey range with a loft and crowstepped gables. This range includes two segmental headed carriage doorways and a crow-stepped dormer above. Below the dormer is a stone measuring 60 by 50 centimeters, which features three 17th-century kings and is inscribed with "16 T S A 68." There is also an inscription stone that commemorates a walnut tree that was felled in 1899, which had been planted in 1666 to mark the Restoration. The range has been extended to the left, with openings designed in a style consistent with the rest of the structure. The turret and range are balanced by a right turret and range, which is also listed.
