Description
Yeoman's Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, which has been encased and re-roofed in 2019 and restored in the 20th century. The building features red brick that is rendered and colourwashed, covering a timber frame. It has a shallow-pitched pantile roof and is one and a half storeys tall, originally designed with a cross-passage plan. The windows are all from the 20th century, consisting of 2-light casements with leaded glazing. The doorway is off-centre to the south, having been re-sited during recent restoration work, and there is an off-centre chimney stack to the north.
Inside, the 16th-century timber frame is intact up to the wallplate level, with arch-braced tie beams supported by jowled principal posts. The first-floor beams feature ogee chamfer stops. There is a 5-light window with octagonal mullions in the ground floor north wall, along with 5-light and 2-light diamond mullioned windows in the west wall. The southern bay may have been rebuilt later, and the stack and first floor were added in the 17th century. Additionally, there is a later gabled single-storey extension at the north end.
